Personal tragedy and grevious loss cause radical change in an individual's world view and a reevaluation of "things that matter". My brother, Gary Puleio, was killed on August 15, 2001 as a result of unsafe working conditions, inadequate regulatory oversite and the pursuit of corporate greed over workers' needs.

What matters to me now is the creation of a just society that values workers and puts peoples' needs and well being before profits.

April 28 is Workers Memorial Day, a time to remember those killed on the job. Materials to plan your Workers Memorial Day event are now available
.

Robert Murray, co-owner of the Crandall Canyon Mine where six coal miners and three rescuers were killed in August, must testify before a U.S. House committee investigating the tragedy. He was subpoenaed after rebuffing several requests from the committee to appear voluntarily. The committee wants to know if the mining technique used at the mine contributed to the deaths of the six and has questions about Murray's role in the rescue operations.
